# Manufacturing

**Manufacturing** (the Manufacturing Yoke) is an Enterprise app that
turns your workspace into a discrete-manufacturing shop floor:
multi-level bills of materials and routings, work orders and WIP,
material requirements planning, procurement, standard costing, a full
Lean / Six Sigma quality suite, controlled engineering change, and
end-to-end serial / lot genealogy. Every module reads one per-tenant
database with an append-only event log, so a serial number traces from
raw receipt through every operation to the shipped unit, and the
numbers the floor posts are the numbers your accountant closes on.

**Pricing:** included with the **Enterprise** plan at no extra charge.

## Requirements

- **Enterprise plan.** Manufacturing is an Enterprise-tier app.
- **Inventory core.** Manufacturing builds on the free Inventory and
Logistics core — items, locations, and movements — so on-hand stock,
receipts, and issues stay in one place.
- **Yoke Ledger** (recommended) so receiving and costing post to your
  General Ledger.
- **Insight** and **BI Insight** add-ons if you want the packaged
manufacturing dashboards (see [Reporting with BI Insight](#reporting-with-bi-insight)).

## Installing

1. Go to Logic Cores (sidebar → **Logic Cores**).
2. Find **Manufacturing** in the **Yokes** group.
3. Click **Install**.
4. Choose whether to load demo data (a sample product, its BOM and
routing, a few work orders, and quality records) so you can explore
the app immediately. You can delete it at any time.
5. Done. The **Manufacturing** section appears in your workspace
   sidebar.

Installing unlocks the Manufacturing navigation group; uninstalling
hides it again. Manufacturing is available only on Enterprise tenants —
the listing is visible but not installable on lower tiers.

## What you get

Once installed, the Manufacturing section groups these workspaces:

| Workspace | What it does |
|---|---|
| **BOM & Routings** | Multi-level bills of materials with effective-revision control, and routings that define each operation, work center, and standard time. |
| **Production** | Release, issue, backflush, and complete work orders on a live board. The effective revision is shown on every order so the floor always builds the released design. |
| **WIP** | Work-in-process valuation that moves with the work — material, labor, and overhead accumulate per order and settle on completion. |
| **MRP** | Low-level-code netting over demand, on-hand, and open orders, producing planned make and buy orders with clear pegging. |
| **Procurement** | Purchase orders, receiving, and an approved-vendor list (AVL) per part. Buy signals flow straight from MRP; receipts post to inventory and to a draft AP bill. |
| **Costing** | Rolled-up standard cost from the BOM and routing, with purchase-price and production variance surfaced per order. |
| **SPC** | Statistical process control charts that flag out-of-control signals on a monitored characteristic. |
| **Improvement** | DMAIC improvement projects with corrective / preventive action (CAPA) tracking. |
| **Defects** | Defect capture with DPMO and Pareto analysis to rank what to fix first. |
| **OEE** | Overall equipment effectiveness by shift and work center. |
| **Engineering Changes** | Controlled engineering change orders (ECO) against BOMs and routings, with an effective-revision cutover and a full audit trail. |
| **Recall / Genealogy** | Forward-and-back traceability and the device-history-record view — every serial and lot links to the components consumed and the operations performed. |
| **Reports** | Packaged manufacturing dashboards on BI Insight (see below). |

## Quality and traceability

Quality is a first-class part of the app, not a bolt-on:

- **SPC** charts monitor a characteristic and raise an out-of-control
signal in place; the signal can open a DMAIC project.
- **DMAIC + CAPA** track an improvement through Define, Measure,
Analyze, Improve, Control with corrective and preventive actions
  recorded against it.
- **DPMO and Pareto** turn raw defect counts into a ranked view of
where the biggest quality losses are.
- **OEE** breaks equipment effectiveness into availability, performance,
and quality by shift and work center.
- **Serial / lot genealogy** assembles a device-history record for any
unit — the components consumed, the operations performed, and the
people who signed off — in one place, ready for an audit or a recall.

## Engineering change (ECO)

Changes to a released BOM or routing go through a controlled change
order rather than an in-place edit. An ECO carries an effective
revision; until it's released, the floor keeps building the current
revision, and once it cuts over, every new work order picks up the new
design. The event log records who changed what, when, and why, so the
change history is audit-ready by construction.

## Reporting with BI Insight

Manufacturing pairs with [BI Insight](/docs/apps/bi-insight) for
governed reporting. With the **Insight** and **BI Insight** add-ons
enabled, three persona dashboards bring the manufacturing data
together without exporting anything:

- **Ops Control Tower** — work-order status and labor, WIP by material,
and planning coverage for the plant manager and production lead.
- **Quality & Compliance** — defect Pareto and severity, OEE by work
center, and engineering-change activity for the quality team.
- **Cost & Value** — procurement spend, WIP value, and cost / variance
  for finance and operations leadership.

Each dashboard reads the same governed semantic models the rest of your
Insight reporting uses, so what a chart shows is exactly what's
approved for reporting — nothing more. Build your own alongside them in
the BI Insight dashboard builder.

## Works with your other apps

- **Inventory Yoke** — the parts Manufacturing consumes and produces are
the same items Inventory tracks; receipts, issues, and completions
  move real on-hand stock.
- **Yoke Ledger + GL Pack** — receiving posts to draft AP bills and
costing posts to the General Ledger, so month-end close runs against
  the numbers the floor produced.
- **CRM Suite** — link finished goods to your product catalog so quotes
and orders reference what you build.

## Building on it

Every lifecycle in Manufacturing runs on FastYoke's FSM Designer, so
you can extend it without code:

- **Add quality gates** — require an inspection to pass before a work
  order can complete.
- **Add custom fields** — attach a supplier reference, a test result, or
any field you need via **Admin** → **Annotation pages**.
- **Route engineering-change approvals** — model your change-review
board as an FSM with role-gated transitions and a full event-log
  trail.

For deeper needs — machine-signal (OPC-UA / MTConnect) capture,
MES-style operator terminals, or finite-capacity scheduling — use the
typed SDK. See the [SDK reference](/docs/sdk/reference).

## Removing the app

Uninstalling hides the Manufacturing navigation group and removes the
app's demo records. Records you created after install are governed by
the cleanup settings on each record type's page.
